After weeks of researching mask filtration and material science literature, I set out to design a prototype for a cost-effective modular respirator that could protect frontliners taking care of confirmed Covid-19 patients in underserved communities.
This design is unique as it is a fully electronic device that is based on peer-reviewed literature and uses electrostatic principles to filter aerosols. The respirator also houses UV-C bulbs that disinfect the internal components between each use by disrupting nucleic acids and genetic material of entrapped viruses and microorganisms.
The filters were sourced from 3M and have undergone rigorous quality control to ensure that they are safe and effective.
